About The Position

Angell Animal Medical Center is seeking an experienced Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician for its growing specialty service in dentistry. This role involves working closely with the Dental Staff, Dental Supervisor, Dental Veterinarians, and other hospital support staff to provide the highest quality dental care to patients. The Veterinary Dental Technician/Assistant will support and direct interns and residents, utilizing a fully equipped dental suite. The ideal candidate will demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking, teamwork, and effective communication with veterinary staff, clients, and referring veterinarians. Responsibilities include anesthesia monitoring, taking radiographs, dental scaling and polishing, assisting the dental veterinarian with appointments, and administrative tasks like client phone calls. A training period in surgery/anesthesia protocols will precede final training in dental techniques. The role requires technical and clinical expertise for assessing, inducing, monitoring, and stabilizing patients across various case types, including emergencies and intensive anesthetic monitoring. Strong technical skills such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, intubation, CPR, and patient restraint are essential.

Requirements

  • Ideally 2 years of experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must include a cover letter showcasing writing skills.
  • To be hired as a veterinary technician, one must be a certified veterinary technician.
  • Recent graduates from an accredited veterinary technology program are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest quality dental care to patients in the Dental Service.
  • Work in conjunction with a team of doctors and technicians to provide support and direction for interns and residents.
  • Perform anesthesia monitoring.
  • Take radiographs.
  • Perform dental scale and polish.
  • Assist the dental veterinarian with appointments.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as phone calls to clients.
  • Obtain proficiency in all tasks & procedures outlined in the anesthetic skills checklist.
  • Utilize technical and clinical expertise to effectively assess, induce, monitor and stabilize all dental, emergent and urgent case types.
  • Provide technical support during emergency situations and arrests and with patients requiring intensive anesthetic monitoring.
  • Demonstrate and model strong technical skills including but not limited to venipuncture, IV catheter placement, intubation, CPR procedures and proper patient restraint/handling.
