About The Position

Posterity Group LLC is seeking a Dental Laboratory Technician (Anaplastologist) to staff The Naval Medical Clinic San Diego and associated locations. This role involves working closely with professional staff in fabricating and fitting ocular restorations, facial prosthesis, crowns, and fixed partial dentures. The technician will be expected to independently design, construct, and fix difficult design and construction problems, including the fabrication of maxillofacial prosthetics such as obturators, palatal lift prosthesis, radiation stents, extraoral prosthetics, magnet implant systems, and silicone oculars. The position requires proficiency with CAD/CAM design, workflows, and manufacturing. Technicians must read and interpret dental prosthetic prescriptions (DD Form 2322) and perform work to a quality level determined by a quality control inspector, often using microscopes. Responsibilities include maintaining the work environment and adhering to correction rate standards. The description also outlines the capabilities expected of general laboratory technicians, removable prosthodontic laboratory technicians, porcelain application laboratory technicians (ceramist), prosthesis finishing laboratory technicians, and CAD-CAM milling and designing technicians.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or Certificate depending on the program – or - Certificate from Army, Air Force, or Navy Dental Laboratory Training (METC) - or - Evidence of 2 or more years as a lab technician accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a licensed dentist or previous dental laboratory employer.
  • Successful completion of a 2-year program of study and training in dental lab techniques approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) – or – High School diploma if certified through an Army, Air Force, or Navy Dental Laboratory Training (METC) program.
  • Two years within the last three years of dental laboratory experience in any of the following dental laboratory sections: General Laboratory, Removable Prosthodontics, Porcelain application (ceramist), Prosthesis finishing (metal and ceramic), and CAD/CAM (Computer Assisted Design/Computer Assisted Manufacturing) Design and Milling.
  • 5 years of experience as an anaplastologist.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM design, workflows, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricating and fitting ocular restorations, facial prosthesis, crowns, and fixed partial dentures.
  • Independently designing, constructing, and fixing difficult design and construction problems.
  • Fabricating an array of maxillofacial prosthetics to include surgical, interim, and definitive obturators, palatal lift prosthesis, radiation stents, extraoral prosthetics, magnet implant systems, and oculars, including silicone prosthesis.
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying requirements prescribed and described in a dental prosthetic prescription (DD Form 2322).
  • Fabricating units under microscopic magnification with fiber optic light source.
  • Maintaining the work environment.
  • Pouring or casting all types of impressions.
  • Trimming, mounting, and articulating casts with or without a face bow and jaw relation records to include orthodontic models.
  • Duplicating casts.
  • Fabricating impression trays, bleaching trays, athletic mouth guards, and orthodontic retainers from thermoplastic materials.
  • Fabricating fixed and removable prosthodontic templates from thermoplastic or silicone materials.
  • Fabricating surgical stents or guides from thermoplastic or light-cured materials.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the plaster bench and associated areas.
  • Fabricating custom trays, base plates, and occlusion rims.
  • Setting denture teeth according to prescription (to include balanced set-ups).
  • Investing or flasking complete and partial removable prostheses (to include flexible RPDs).
  • Finishing and preparing prostheses for insertion.
  • Performing relines, rebases, repairs, fabricating orthodontic retainers, and any other work prescribed for the use of acrylic resin.
  • Fabricating TAP appliances, surgical guides, athletic mouth guards, occlusal orthotics, and occlusal guards.
  • Waxing and designing bars for implant supported restorations.
  • Applying colorants and porcelain to fabricate tooth or implant supported crowns, fixed partial dentures, complete dentures from metal, milled or pressed ceramic and refractory models.
  • Using recommended stones, diamond burs, wheels, and disks to cut, carve, shape, contour, and polish units to simulate natural dentition.
  • Using stains and modifiers to characterize porcelain to match natural tooth shade and imperfections.
  • Modifying metal or ceramic frameworks to optimize biomechanical, functional, and esthetic outcomes.
  • Applying and sculpting wax to proper anatomical form and designing or modifying a metal-ceramic framework for support of porcelain.
  • Diagnostically waxing to full contour and cutting back the design.
  • Designing framework components including survey crowns, non-rigid connectors, and attachments.
  • Sprueing and investing, casting or pressing wax-ups to minimize miscasts.
  • Cutting and soldering frameworks to correct fit discrepancies.
  • Finishing all types of frameworks with recommended stones, diamond burs, wheels, and disks to prepare them for porcelain application.
  • Fabricating crowns and bridges from pressed or milled ceramic.
  • Using software and hardware to upload digital impressions and/or designs, scan casts, and design and mill restorations.
