About The Position

The Dental Laboratory Assistant assists the Dental Laboratory Coordinator with duties at the College of Dental Medicine Dental Clinic. This position reports to the Dental Lab Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner with regular, predictable, in-person attendance.
  • Ability to become familiar with EPIC and DDX Dental Software Management Systems and the Cerec CAD/CAM system.
  • Demanding precision, the assistant should enjoy detail work and work cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Ability to develop a positive rapport effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, be meticulous, and promote a welcoming atmosphere is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate well with a small team is a must for a team player.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have 1-3 years of related experience working in a dental office or dental laboratory setting.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to become familiar with the EPIC and DDX Clinic Management Systems.
  • Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with dentures, partials, mouth guards, and repairs is preferred.
  • Experience in a commercial laboratory with the ability to demonstrate laboratory procedures to students.
  • Experience working in a team and a customer service-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all incoming and outgoing laboratory cases that require opening and closing small shipping boxes.
  • Check all lab cases for quality assurance prior to going to the lab and returning to the student dentist.
  • Record and organize laboratory charges.
  • Record and organize data import into the electronic student management system (DDX linked to EPIC), which requires computer skills and keyboard input.
  • Assist and assess students with lab prescriptions and lab equipment usage.
  • Organize, stock, and maintain cleanliness in student laboratories, requiring the tech to lift and pour 25 lbs. of lab material into bins.
  • Move equipment for relocation or cleaning.
  • Communicate and discuss cases with laboratories, faculty, and students.
  • Maintain lab equipment requiring the ability to change filters, partially disassemble small equipment to clean, using small hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Train with our technology changes in the clinic as needed.
  • Work closely with the other Dental Laboratory Assistants and the Dental Lab Coordinator.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
