About The Position

The Assistant Director of Patient Finance contributes to the success of the KCU Oral Health Center by working to ensure excellence in patient financial services delivery through efficient processes, accurate billings, timely appointment processing and professional and positive patient interactions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge typically obtained through an Associate's degree or equivalent dental office experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Dental clinic operations including patient registration, billing, and collections
  • At least three years of experience in the dental industry
  • Proficiency with current technology and software applications including Electronic Health Record
  • Extensive knowledge of third-party requirements, Medicare/Medicaid regulations and electronic filing of claims
  • Understanding of and familiarity with current dental terminology
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous management experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages the credentialing process for Medicaid and other insurance providers
  • Performs account management, reviewing and maintaining patient accounts, including proper patient registration in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Oversees the collections process to ensure timely and efficient recovery of outstanding accounts
  • Consistently maintains accuracy and integrity in financial transactions, including regularly updating account information, monitoring billing processes, and addressing any discrepancies promptly to ensure that all financial data reflects the current status of each patient’s account
  • Creates, modifies and runs financial reports from the EHR. Analyzes financial data to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Stays updated on changes in insurance regulations and reimbursement policies
  • Presents financial reports and analysis
  • Ensures compliance with contractual obligations and monitor performance metrics
  • Oversees billing operations, ensuring accuracy in charge capture and claims submission
  • Assists with the posting of insurance payments and adjustments in the EHR
  • Acts as liaison between the patient, family and clinical faculty/staff, as needed
  • Understands Insurance plans, fees, and benefits as they pertain to the patient’s treatment and be able to discuss with the patients
  • Assists in the training of billing and collection personnel as needed
  • Assists in managing and establishing internal controls to ensure timely and accurate billing, filing and payment collections
  • Assists Director with financial and regulatory reviews as related to the College of Dental Medicine, including but not limited to the annual single audit, Department of Education and other governmental reviews and accreditation requirements
  • Adheres to regulations regarding confidentiality of patient and student information, in accordance with both HIPAA and FERPA
