Requirements

  • Current state licensure as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Proficient in dental hygiene techniques, including scaling, root planing, and periodontal probing.
  • Knowledge of dental radiography, sterilization protocols, and infection control practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and motivate patients in oral health practices.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dental prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, and periodontal probing as needed for patients.
  • Provide thorough oral hygiene instruction and preventative care techniques to patients.
  • Apply topical anesthesia, as recommended or required, to prepare patients for dental procedures.
  • Maintain and update patient records, ensuring accurate documentation of treatments and procedures.
  • Expose radiographs and assess dental health at appropriate intervals.
  • Order, organize, and stock dental supplies to ensure the smooth operation of the practice.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of dental health education or preventative programs for patients.
  • Participate in research projects and conduct needs assessment surveys to improve patient care and community oral health.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall function of the practice.
  • Administer local anesthesia, if certified.
  • Screen for signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, and report findings to the dentist.
