About The Position

The Greater New Bedford Community Health Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Hygienist to provide patient-centered care to a diverse community with unique needs. The health center offers a variety of services including primary & urgent care, women’s health, pediatrics, adult medicine, behavioral health, and dental care. The mission is to educate and inspire patients to be active participants in their total health care, and to be a resource and leader in the community. The vision is to improve the health and well-being of each patient, their families, and the greater community. The Dental Hygienist will clean teeth, examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease, educate patients on oral hygiene, and provide preventive care such as taking x-rays and applying fluoride or sealants.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene Program.
• 1-2 years’ experience as a dental hygienist.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Current Massachusetts state license to practice as a dental hygienist.
• Dentrix preferred.
• Knowledge of the modern principles, practices and techniques of dental hygiene.
• Knowledge of dental hygiene in instruction of patients; use of equipment and instruments in examining and cleaning teeth.
• Minimum one - two year experience preferred.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member essential.
• Ability to give group and individual instructions in dental hygiene; write and speak effectively; establish and maintain good relationships with lay and professional personnel and gain their cooperation in the achievement of dental health objectives; deal courteously, effectively and tactfully with patients.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine hygiene treatment for children and adults.
• Performs preventive dentistry procedures to include dental prophylaxis, oral screenings, and topical fluoride applications.
• Keeps clear clinical documentation in patient files regarding services provided.
• Help patients develop and maintain good oral health by explaining the relationship between diet and oral health.
• Inform patient how to select toothbrushes.
• Show patients how to brush and floss their teeth.
• Remove calculus, stains and plaque from teeth; take and develop dental x-rays; apply cavity preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.
