Requirements

  • Must be present on time; individual must be reliable.
  • Completed dental hygiene certificate program or Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • Current Hygienist license for the state of North Carolina.
  • Ability to demonstrate independent thinking and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to formulate, affect, interpret, and/or implement operating practices.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork approach to job responsibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, dependability and promptness.
  • Must perform frequent repetitive work with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Promoting dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, providing oral cancer screenings, periodontal maintenance, charting dental solutions, and assisting with a variety of responsibilities in the dental office, all in compliance with the highest standard of care.
  • Assessing dental condition and needs of patient using patient screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting.
  • Delivering direct patient care using established dental hygienist procedures.
  • Taking patient vital signs.
  • Performing routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning and polishing.
  • Taking radiographs required for diagnosis of treatment needs by the dentist.
  • Applying sealants and fluorides.
  • Electronic record keeping.
  • Documenting patient dental history and chief complaint.
  • Recording and reporting pertinent observations.
  • Teaching patients how to prevent tooth decay and gum disease through proper diet and oral home care.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
  • Completing Treatment Plan as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Reviewing and explaining treatment plan and associates fees with patient.
  • Articulating and expressing patients concerns to dentist.
  • Acting as the primary treatment coordinator.
  • Performing ancillary duties as needed.
