About The Position

ChristianaCare Hospital Dentistry Clinic is looking for a Dental Hygienist. This role is for a licensed oral health professional who works collaboratively with dentists to deliver preventive care and promote long-term oral health. The Dental Hygienist provides comprehensive dental cleanings, including the removal of plaque and tartar above and below the gumline, and performs preliminary examinations to identify conditions such as gingivitis, periodontal disease, and other oral health concerns. The Dental Hygienist educates patients on proper brushing, flossing, nutrition, and overall oral-hygiene practices to support disease prevention. The Dental Hygienist also takes and develops dental X-rays to support diagnostic decision-making and applies preventive treatments such as fluoride and sealants to help reduce the risk of cavities. Through a combination of clinical expertise, patient education, and preventive services, the Dental Hygienist plays a key role in improving patient outcomes and supporting overall oral wellness.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene Program
  • Current Delaware Dental Hygiene License
  • Current CPR certification
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to serving under-resourced patient populations
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, particularly when supporting patients who may be experiencing stress
  • Dedication to public health and community wellness
  • Solid understanding of dental instruments, materials, equipment, and radiologic procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of sterilization, disinfecting techniques, and universal precautions

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive dental cleanings, including the removal of plaque and tartar above and below the gumline.
  • Performs preliminary examinations to identify conditions such as gingivitis, periodontal disease, and other oral health concerns.
  • Educates patients on proper brushing, flossing, nutrition, and overall oral-hygiene practices to support disease prevention.
  • Takes and develops dental X-rays to support diagnostic decision-making.
