About The Position

The incumbent in this role provides preventive, restorative, and periodontal dental care services to adult and pediatric patients, with a focus on improving access to oral healthcare for low-income, uninsured, and underserved populations. Supports the health department’s mission to reduce the prevalence of dental disease and untreated dental decay through high-quality clinical care, patient education, and preventive interventions. Participates in community outreach and oral health promotion activities to increase awareness of available services and advance community oral health outcomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or associate's degree (A.A.) in Dental Hygiene.
  • Certification from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
  • Two (2) years of clinical or private practice experience.
  • Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals and techniques of dental hygiene.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and charting.
  • Knowledge of the techniques for taking digital oral radiographs.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices in dental settings.
  • Ability to cooperatively interact with dentist and dental assistants.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain an electronic dental record.
  • Ability to communicate with patients of diverse cultural groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostic, preventive, and periodontal dental hygiene services in accordance with established clinical standards and protocols.
  • Coordinates and supports continuity of patient care through effective communication and collaboration with dental and medical providers.
  • Delivers oral health education and preventive counseling to patients, community partners, and outreach program participants.
  • Provides preventive dental services and oral health education at designated off-site locations in compliance with the Public Health Dental Hygiene Act and applicable regulations.
  • Assists with the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Dental Quality Management Program, including activities related to the Ryan White Program.
  • Serves as a resource for patient referrals and facilitates access to available clinics services.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and revision of clinical and program protocols within the organization's scope of services.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care, outreach activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
