Under the direct supervision of the Dental Director, the Dental Hygienist will render educational, preventive and therapeutic dental services and diagnosis, and treatment planning for such services. This role involves coordinating with the dental team to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for active disease states in the oral cavity, preparing treatment plans, and examining patients' teeth and surrounding tissues. The hygienist will also record and evaluate medical and dental histories, perform oral prophylaxis and therapeutic care, and administer temporary restorations as directed. Additionally, the position involves performing deep scaling, root planning, and subgingival curettage under dentist supervision, applying sealants or fluoride, administering nitrous oxide/oxygen conscious sedation and local anesthesia, and providing oral hygiene instruction. Radiographs will be taken, developed, and interpreted to assess calcium deposits and periodontal involvement, and used for patient education. The role includes maintaining infection control procedures, participating in outreach events and vaccine clinics, managing clinic opening and closing tasks, maintaining inventory, implementing task management systems, assisting with electronic dental records, and ensuring equipment maintenance. The Dental Hygienist will also participate in updating operating procedures, managing the home care station, and performing clinic maintenance tasks. They will attend meetings, perform duties delegable to dental assistants, participate in the patient recall system, and develop/implement/assess a comprehensive dental hygiene program for beneficiaries, including on and off-site programs like sealant clinics and Head Start. Professional growth and career development are encouraged. Situations requiring significant deviations from guidelines are referred to the dentist. The hygienist will review work and provide feedback to assigned Dental Assistants, and perform as a dental receptionist in their absence. Services may be performed at alternate locations with an Expanded Practice permit. Other duties as assigned.
