Akicita Federal is hiring a Dental Hygienist to deliver high-quality preventive oral health care to tribal community members served by the Indian Health Service in Warm Springs, OR. Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Dental Hygienist license in any U.S. state or territory; must be eligible to obtain Oregon licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program (Associate's degree minimum; Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Proficiency in dental radiography techniques and radiation safety practices
  • Ability to document clinical findings and maintain accurate patient records within an electronic health record system

Nice To Haves

  • Previous clinical experience in a federal, tribal, or Indian Health Service dental program
  • Familiarity with the IHS Electronic Health Record (EHR) or similar government dental software
  • Experience serving Native American or other underserved rural patient populations
  • Knowledge of culturally competent care practices relevant to Indigenous communities
  • Oregon state dental hygiene licensure already in hand at time of application

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive dental hygiene services — including prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance — for patients across all age groups
  • Conduct thorough oral health assessments, document clinical findings accurately, and maintain patient records in accordance with IHS standards
  • Administer fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and other preventive therapies to both pediatric and adult patients
  • Expose, process, and interpret dental radiographs to support dentist diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Educate patients and families on oral hygiene techniques, nutrition, and disease prevention tailored to individual and cultural needs
  • Coordinate with dentists, dental assistants, and other clinic staff to deliver seamless, patient-centered care
  • Maintain infection control protocols and ensure proper sterilization and preparation of instruments and treatment areas
