Under the direct supervision of the Dental Director, the Dental Hygienist will render educational, preventive and therapeutic dental services and diagnosis, and treatment planning for such services. This role involves coordinating with the dental team to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for active disease states in the oral cavity, preparing treatment plans, and examining patients' teeth and surrounding tissues. The hygienist will perform oral prophylaxis, therapeutic care, temporary restorations, deep scaling, root planning, subgingival curettage, sealant or fluoride application, and administer nitrous oxide/oxygen conscious sedation and local anesthesia. Patient education, radiograph interpretation, infection control, and participation in outreach events are also key components. Additionally, the role includes managing clinic operations such as opening/closing tasks, inventory, supply ordering, maintaining electronic records, equipment maintenance, and participating in procedure updates. The hygienist will also manage the home care station, clinic maintenance, and attend meetings. They are expected to perform duties of dental assistants if trained, participate in patient recall, and develop/implement comprehensive dental hygiene programs for various beneficiaries and tribal programs. Professional growth and career development are encouraged, with referrals to the dentist for significant deviations from guidelines. Performance feedback for Dental Assistants and receptionist duties in their absence are also part of the role. Services may be performed at alternate locations with an Expanded Practice permit. Other duties as assigned.
