Position Summary The Dental Hygienist provides preventive and therapeutic oral health services consistent with FQHC standards of care, with a strong emphasis on disease prevention, patient education, and improving access to care. This role supports an integrated, team-based healthcare model by collaborating with dentists and other healthcare professionals to improve overall patient outcomes. The Dental Hygienist also assists chairside, as needed, during examinations and treatment procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a practicing Dental Hygienist, preferably in a community health or public health setting.
  • Current licensure by the State Dental Hygiene Board
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification
  • Certification in administration of local anesthesia
  • Certification in administration and/or monitoring of nitrous oxide
  • Prosthetic Function Certification
  • Restorative Function Certification

Responsibilities

  • Review and document comprehensive medical and dental histories; perform periodontal charting, probing, and clinical assessments of oral health status; maintain accurate, compliant patient records.
  • Expose, process, and evaluate radiographs in accordance with clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough intraoral and extraoral examinations, including periodontal evaluations and oral cancer screenings.
  • Perform preventive and therapeutic procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, and root planing as indicated; apply fluoride treatments and other caries-preventive agents.
  • Provide individualized oral hygiene instruction and patient education to promote health literacy and long-term disease prevention.
  • Assist the dentist during examinations and treatment planning to ensure coordinated, efficient delivery of care.
  • Take impressions for study models and perform adjunct clinical duties within scope, including removal of sutures and placement/removal of authorized dental materials and appliances.
  • Deliver school-based oral health services and preventive care to pediatric populations, supporting early intervention and access to care.
  • Participate in community outreach initiatives, including oral health education programs and clinics that support the FQHC mission.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and clinical oversight for dental hygiene students to support workforce development and ensure adherence to clinical and compliance standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and productivity goals, including accurate documentation and reporting (e.g., UDS measures).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care.
