About The Position

The Dental Assistant supports dental services at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, Texas. The role prepares detainees for examination and treatment in accordance with MTC Medical and customer directives, and assists the dentist with procedures and related clinical and administrative tasks. The position also supports a safe, secure, and confidential healthcare environment for detainees and staff. The incumbent is expected to perform other duties within their capabilities as assigned by management. Regular attendance is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least six months of clinical dental assistant experience.
Current certification or registration as a dental assistant in Texas.
Current certification in dental radiological procedures.
Current CPR certification.
Complete continuing education as required.
Successfully complete required preservice training.
Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

Responsibilities

Prepare detainees for examination and treatment in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.
Assist the dentist by preparing detainees in the chair and handling required instruments, equipment, and dental plastics.
Sterilize instruments and keep the office stocked with required supplies.
Arrange and maintain the appointment schedule and perform clerical duties as necessary.
Maintain detainee records and protect the security and confidentiality of medical records in accordance with applicable HIPAA rules.
Provide post-operative and oral hygiene instructions as prescribed by the dentist.
Assist in taking patient X-rays.
Promote positive social skills by modeling appropriate behavior and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed; provide staff with regular feedback on social-skills procedures and intervention techniques.
Maintain accountability of staff, detainees, and property, and adhere to safety practices.
Maintain regular attendance and perform other assigned duties within the incumbent's capabilities.
