About The Position

We are looking for an experienced chairside Dental Assistant who is reliable, takes pride in their work, and supports positive experiences for patients and teammates. This hands-on, in-person role includes assisting with general and restorative procedures as well as helping patients understand treatment recommendations, costs, and financing options. The office operates on full schedules, so the Dental Assistant is expected to help keep the provider’s schedule full by scheduling treatment, confirming appointments, filling openings, and following up on unscheduled treatment. The role requires regular, predictable, on-time attendance for the full scheduled shift; focus and engagement during patient care; a positive and professional attitude; a team-first approach; confidence discussing costs; ownership of the schedule; and professional hygiene and grooming. The position has physical requirements including extended sitting or standing, repeated bending and reaching, fine motor work, close-range vision, communication while wearing a mask and working around equipment noise, lifting and moving up to 25 pounds, and exposure to blood, saliva, radiation, disinfectants, and dental materials while following safety protocols. Hiring involves a phone screen and an in-office working interview. Candidates should be prepared to provide at least two supervisor references. Offers are contingent on satisfactory reference and background checks. New team members complete a 90-day introductory period.

Requirements

  • 1 to 2+ years of chairside dental assisting experience.
  • Experience presenting treatment plans and discussing financial arrangements with patients.
  • Experience scheduling treatment chairside, confirming appointments, and managing a provider schedule.
  • Working knowledge of dental insurance and procedure terminology.
  • Radiography certification or applicable state-required credentials (NC DA II, SC, or VA).
  • Current CPR/BLS certification, or willingness to obtain it.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of chairside work, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Reliable, regular, predictable, and on-time attendance for the full scheduled shift.
  • Ability to work hands-on and in person, stay focused during patient care, and refrain from phone use during care.
  • Positive and professional attitude, receptiveness to feedback, and respectful treatment of patients and coworkers.
  • Team-first approach, open communication, and willingness to assist without being asked.
  • Comfort discussing costs clearly and confidently without pressuring patients or avoiding the conversation.
  • Ability to schedule from the chair, confirm appointments, and address open schedule slots and patients leaving without appointments.
  • Professional presentation, including high standards for personal hygiene, grooming, and clean scrubs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, often four or more hours at a time.
  • Ability to bend, lean, twist, and reach over patients repeatedly.
  • Fine motor control and steady grip in both hands to pass instruments, suction, mix materials, and take impressions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements throughout procedures.
  • Close-range vision, including seeing small details, depth, and color.
  • Ability to hear and respond to the dentist and patients while wearing a mask and working around equipment noise.
  • Ability to speak clearly to give instructions and explain treatment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move quickly between operatories, sterilization, and the front office throughout the shift.
  • Ability to wear required protective equipment for the full shift.
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance and personal hygiene appropriate for close patient contact, including avoiding strong odors and fragrances.
