About The Position

Big Smiles is hiring a Dental Assistant to provide dental care to underserved children at schools in Oakland, California, and surrounding areas. This school-based mobile dental program brings preventive and restorative care directly to students using portable equipment or a self-contained mobile dental facility. The workday follows the school schedule, typically about 6–7 hours between 8:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., with evenings, weekends, and summers off. The position involves traveling daily to school sites and working with children and adults in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• Hold an active CPR certification card.
• Have at least 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Have at least 1 year of digital X-ray imaging experience.
• Hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel locally.
• Work well with children and adults.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment; be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
• Be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to walk several flights of stairs on occasion.
• Hold Coronal Polishing/Sealant certification.
• Hold X-ray certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide dental assisting services during mobile dental clinics.
• Perform digital X-ray imaging.
• Chart patient records.
• Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and sterilization.
• Travel daily to and from school sites.
