About The Position

Great Big Smiles Pediatric Dentistry by Nathan A. Burns, DMD, is a privately owned pediatric dental practice treating children and adolescents ages 0–18. The practice is seeking a positive, caring dental assistant who values teamwork, quality care, customer service, and professional growth. Experience, training, or education as a dental assistant is ideal; EDDA certification is helpful but not required. The practice is willing to help finance EDDA certification and provides additional training as needed. The dental assistant provides chairside support to pediatric dentists and other assistants, including preparing patients for procedures and exams, setting up and breaking down instrument trays, sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, taking recommended digital radiographs, and maintaining accurate electronic patient charts and notes. If EDDA certified, the assistant also cleans teeth, applies fluoride varnish, and applies sealants. After training, the assistant will help with orthodontic procedures. The role also involves communicating compassionately with dentists, team members, patients, and parents, and providing patient and practice support, including personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support. The practice is located in Metairie, Louisiana. Patients are seen Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; the practice is typically off every other Friday and sees patients for IV sedation on the other Fridays. Morning huddles begin at 7:30 a.m. The role offers a compensation package that includes insurance, bonuses, retirement benefits, paid time off, and paid continuing education.
