About The Position

Big Smiles is seeking a Dental Assistant to provide dental care to underserved children at schools in Oakland, California, and surrounding areas. This school-based mobile dental practice brings dental services directly to students using portable equipment or a self-contained mobile dental facility. The role offers a different environment from a traditional dental practice, with a school-day schedule that typically runs about 6–7 hours, averaging 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and no evenings or weekends. The position requires daily local travel to school sites and involves assisting during mobile dental clinics, digital X-ray imaging, charting patient records, and helping set up, break down, and sterilize equipment. Full-time and part-time positions are available, with compensation of $20–$30 per hour.

Requirements

• Hold an active CPR certification card.
• Have at least 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Have at least 1 year of digital X-ray imaging experience.
• Have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
• Work well with children and adults.
• Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
• Be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to walk several flights of stairs on occasion; many schools do not have elevators.
• Have Coronal Polishing/Sealant certification.
• Have X-Ray Certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide dental assisting services during mobile dental clinics.
