About The Position

UTHealth Houston’s School of Dentistry is seeking a registered Dental Assistant I or certified Dental Assistant II to work in Pediatric Dentistry. The role performs routine tasks assisting professional dental staff and residents with patient examinations and prophylactic, therapeutic, and surgical treatment. The position works under direct supervision and assists in teaching Pediatric Dentistry residents and dental students the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization. The position is located at 7500 Cambridge, Houston, Texas 77054. Employees must permanently reside and work in Texas. This is a security-sensitive position.

Requirements

Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) Dental Assistant registration or certification, as applicable, is required.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Basic office or computer skills.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
Must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of Pediatric Dentistry procedures and nomenclature.
Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program.

Responsibilities

Assist in teaching Pediatric Dentistry residents and dental students the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU).
Provide chairside assistance to residents and faculty.
Maintain sterile conditions and prepare equipment, instruments, and supplies in the working area.
Maintain infection control standards.
Maintain records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.
Respond to emergency situations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
