About The Position

Hero Practice Services is seeking Dental Assistant Externs to experience various facets of dental procedures in a pediatric office. The position is open only to students enrolled in an accredited dental assisting program and reports to the Operations Manager. Upon successful completion of externship hours, externs may be hired as full-time dental assistants. The position is at-will, meaning either the employer or employee may terminate the employment at any time, with or without cause or prior notice.

Externs support patient care and practice operations by tracking externship hours, recording charting and dentist notes as directed, preparing and cleaning treatment rooms and instruments, monitoring the schedule, and educating patients about dental procedures. They help maintain a clean, sterile, patient-centric, and presentable practice, and comply with applicable regulations and policies. Other duties may be assigned as business needs dictate.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited dental assisting program.
• Proven work experience in customer or patient service, or the ability and desire to learn.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a desire for professional growth.
• Must be organized and possess knowledge of dentistry.

Responsibilities

• Keep track of all externship hours and timesheets.
• Record patient charting and the dentist’s notes in the digital patient chart, as directed by the dentist.
• Prepare and clean treatment rooms and instruments.
• Monitor the schedule for efficiency.
• Educate patients on dental procedures.
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and patient-centric working environment.
• Maintain strict compliance with State, Federal, and other regulations and policies, including OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, DOL, and the employee handbook.
• Keep the practice clean and presentable to patients, including cleaning restrooms and the patient lobby, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
• Perform other duties that support the business and its mission.
