About The Position

Hero Practice Services is seeking Dental Assistant Externs to gain experience with various facets of dental procedures in a pediatric office. The position is only open to students enrolled in an accredited dental assisting program and reports to the Operations Manager. Upon successful completion of externship hours, externs may be hired as full-time dental assistants. The position is at-will, meaning either the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause or prior notice.

Externs support patient care and the operation of the practice by tracking externship hours, documenting patient charting and dentist notes as directed, preparing and cleaning rooms and instruments, monitoring schedules, educating patients, and maintaining a clean and sterile environment. They must comply with applicable regulations and help keep the practice presentable, including cleaning common areas and restrooms. Other duties that support the business and its mission may be assigned.

The role requires full range of body motion and regular sitting, walking, standing, bending, verbal communication, repetitive hand use, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in a standard office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited dental assisting program.
• Proven work experience in customer or patient service, or the ability and desire to learn.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a desire for professional growth.
• Organized and knowledgeable about dentistry.

Responsibilities

• Keep track of externship hours and timesheets.
• Record patient charting and the dentist’s notes in the digital patient chart, as directed by the dentist.
• Prepare and clean treatment rooms and instruments, monitor the schedule for efficiency, and educate patients on dental procedures.
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and patient-centric working environment.
• Maintain compliance with applicable state, federal, and other regulations, including OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, DOL, and the employee handbook.
• Keep the practice clean and presentable, including cleaning restrooms and the patient lobby, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
• Perform other duties that support the business and its mission as assigned.
