About The Position

A position within the Operations Department responsible for the operation of Demand Response Transit Service. Demand Response Operators are responsible for delivering Microtransit (The Current) and Paratransit Services. Paratransit Service is dedicated to older adults and people with disabilities who are unable to use regular Fixed-Route bus service. Work is performed without direct supervision and is reviewed by a Supervisor through on-duty observations and from a review of comments from the general public. Typical duties include collection of fares, assisting passengers to and from the vehicle, observing traffic rules and regulations, and answering passenger questions. Individuals in this classification are expected to apply a wide range of customer service and operations knowledge to work activities, which combine recurring and new work situations. The position requires a Commercial Driver’s License, and the efficient and safe transportation of passengers.

Requirements

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in the above job description.
Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the public, understand traffic signs and signals, comprehend written instructions and standard operating procedures, notices, and memos.
Able to read and understand maps, follow GPS directions, and possess, or be able to gain, familiarity with Clark County.
Able to operate a radio to communicate with a Dispatcher.
Skills in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills are required.
Must be pleasant, courteous, and professional to the public at all times and provide a positive image of C-TRAN.
Must understand the special transportation needs of persons with disabilities and assist them in a tactful, patient manner.
Recurrent sitting, lifting, bending, stooping, standing, twisting, crawling, crouching, pushing, pulling, walking, carrying, kneeling, and balancing, due to boarding assistance being available to passengers.
Hearing is necessary for radio operation.
Frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle in all types of weather are typical.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License from the state of residence and maintain a good driving record.
Must be able to obtain a Commercial License Permit a week before training begins.
A Commercial Driver’s License will be required within a specified time frame, determined by the Supervisor, to maintain this position.
Must be able to comply with C-TRAN’s nonsmoking policy and function in a nonsmoking work environment. Smoking is not allowed on vehicles, within close proximity of the vehicle, or while assisting the passengers between the vehicle and the doorway.
Must pass an employment physical examination and drug test to be certified for the position and maintain a physical condition, which, either with or without accommodation, allows completion of all essential duties.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
If selected for the position, documentation that you are a United States citizen or, an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States, will be required to establish your identity and work authorization in accordance with the employer’s obligation under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 757.
If selected for this position, employment will be conditional pending completion of a criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the efficient and safe operation of an assigned vehicle and ensuring the vehicle is in safe mechanical operating condition. May include warming up, checking tires, oil, water level, chaining tires, fueling, and other items.
Use transit-related technology and applications to coordinate the day’s pick-up and drop-off schedules and operate the vehicle in the most direct and time-sensitive route.
Pick up and drop off passengers at various locations including parking lots, street curbs, and driveways.
Monitor and assist with fare collection in accordance with fare policy.
Answer inquiries from passengers regarding C-TRAN services.
Follow all traffic laws, ordinances, and safety rules.
Stay up-to-date on commercial driving regulations.
Maintain a Commercial Driver’s License.
Accurately and thoroughly complete appropriate reports if involved in a vehicular incident and/or an injury or unusual event occurs in the vehicle.
Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
Work any shift including nights, holidays, weekends, mornings, split shifts, and days off, if necessary.
Attend training, retraining, or other informational meetings as necessary.
Assist passengers to evacuate the bus in emergency situations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
