About The Position

The Delivery Driver operates equipment and performs in-store food preparation, order processing, inventory, stocking, and cleaning tasks in addition to delivering products by car to customers. The role includes taking orders by telephone and in person, using a computer keyboard or touch screen, and navigating to addresses throughout a designated delivery area. Training and orientation are provided on the job.

The position involves working in a food-service environment with varying temperatures, hot surfaces and tools, food odors, cornmeal dust, sharp edges, moving mechanical parts, and cramped spaces such as a walk-in cooler. Physical tasks include standing, walking, driving, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, crouching, and occasionally climbing stairs or a ladder. Deliveries may require navigating five or more flights of stairs and carrying products to customer locations.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record meeting company standards.
• Access to an insured vehicle that can be used for delivery.
• Ability to comprehend and give correct written instructions.
• Ability to communicate verbally with customers and co-workers to process orders by phone and in person.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide accurately and quickly; a calculator may be used.
• Ability to make correct monetary change.
• Verbal, writing, and telephone skills to take and process orders.
• Motor coordination between eyes and hands or fingers to make precise movements rapidly and accurately.
• Ability to enter orders using a computer keyboard or touch screen.
• Navigational skills to read a map and locate addresses within the designated delivery area.
• Ability to navigate adverse terrain, including multi-story buildings, private homes, and other delivery sites while carrying products.
• Ability to direct activities, perform repetitive tasks, work alone and with others, work under stress, meet strict quality control standards, deal with people, analyze and compile data, and make judgments and decisions.
• Ability to handle physical duties including lifting cases weighing up to 50 pounds, carrying products, pushing and pulling trays on dollies, and navigating stairs during deliveries.
• Ability to work around varying and sometimes adverse weather; temperatures ranging from 36 degrees in the cooler to 90 degrees and above in some work areas; sudden temperature changes; food odors; cornmeal dust; hot surfaces or tools; sharp edges; moving mechanical parts; and cramped quarters.
• Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged standing, short-distance walking, occasional sitting for paperwork, continuous reaching, and repeated bending at workstations.

Responsibilities

• Operate all equipment.
• Stock ingredients from the delivery area to storage, work areas, and the walk-in cooler.
• Prepare product.
• Receive and process telephone orders.
• Take inventory and complete associated paperwork.
• Clean equipment and the facility approximately daily.
• Deliver products by car to customers’ doors within a designated delivery area.
• Deliver flyers and door hangers.
• Unload bulk product deliveries using a hand truck and move ingredients and supplies to storage shelves.
• Communicate with customers and co-workers to process orders by phone and in person.
