About The Position

Gorman Company, a trade name of Hajoca Corporation, is seeking a CDL Delivery Driver for their Tampa, FL location. This role is ideal for someone who is friendly, customer-service oriented, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and enjoys working independently. The driver will be responsible for safely operating trucks, loading and unloading merchandise, ensuring order accuracy, collecting payments, resolving discrepancies, and providing sales leads.

Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 26,001 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) for the vehicle(s) being driven, with hazmat endorsement if operating a vehicle that requires placarding for hazardous materials.
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
  • Be able to safely operate any delivery vehicle, including commercial motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations, delivering to various locations including job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, or other wholesalers.
  • Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise, securing the load properly to prevent shifting, damage, or falling. Ensure necessary equipment for safe unloading is available.
  • Affix appropriate DOT hazmat truck placards if hauling hazardous materials in excess of 1,000 lbs.
  • Understand shipping documents, have accurate directions to each destination, and ensure order accuracy by reviewing shipping documentation.
  • Unload correct merchandise from the truck, place it as directed by the receiving party, and obtain a legible signature for all delivered merchandise per Company policy.
  • Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries before releasing material to the customer.
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Load the truck at other locations with merchandise, including items picked up from vendors, returned by customers, and purchased from other wholesalers.
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered during deliveries.
  • Inspect the truck and required parts/accessories to determine safe operating condition before departure. Keep the truck clean.
  • Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck. Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report for vehicles over 10,001 lbs. GVWR if any defects are found.
  • Remove keys from the truck at the end of the workday and store them in the approved location.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management.
