About The Position

Elephants Delicatessen, a locally owned company since 1979, pioneered the gourmet food industry in the Pacific Northwest. We pride ourselves on using business as a force for good and are dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion. This full-time Deli Sales position requires weekend availability and some holidays. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can balance hospitality with accountability in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon Food Handler's card
  • Current OLCC Permit
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience - food service or hospitality experience highly preferred
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience in cheese and charcuterie sales
  • A genuine passion for hospitality and team development
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to stay composed and solution-oriented under pressure
  • High standards for cleanliness, safety, and operational excellence
  • Reliability, accountability, and a collaborative mindset
  • Reliable transportation is required. Due to our location, dependable transportation to and from our store is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • food service or hospitality experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Slice, package, weigh, price, and merchandise the department’s deli and bakery products
  • Communicate detailed product information to customers, share origin stories
  • Actively sell and upsell foods and specials by offering samples and recommendations
  • Become acutely tuned in to the sales goal and help meet and exceed that goal through speedy and friendly service
  • Oversee retail presentation and seasonal displays
  • Direct customers to stations and areas of the store
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Cross-train in various FOH roles
  • Reinforce service, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Monitor workflow and pace during peak hours
  • Address guest concerns with professionalism and urgency
