About The Position

A Kroger Deli Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. Deli Clerks are expected to demonstrate Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

The position prepares deli foods for customer requests, follows recipes and food-safety practices, and maintains product labeling, dating, rotation, quality, and freshness. Clerks learn about deli products, answer customer questions, make product suggestions, and use suggestive selling techniques. They may also perform other duties assigned by store leadership, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Desire to gain an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
• Good basic math skills.
• Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items for the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars according to customer requests.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using kitchen utensils and equipment such as fryers and slicers.
• Ensure deli items are labeled, dated, covered, rotated, and monitored for quality and freshness.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold in the deli department, answer questions, and make product suggestions.
• Provide excellent customer service, address customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques.
• Follow food-safety regulations and guidelines.
• Perform essential functions and other duties assigned by store leadership, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Help maintain a safe and clean environment and support department sales, profit, and quality-assurance goals.
