About The Position

The Deli Clerk prepares and packages deli items and fresh meals, helps customers make healthy food choices, and maintains attractive product displays and a clean, safe, sanitary deli area. The role involves preparing special orders and party trays, operating deli equipment according to company procedures, and receiving and checking products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality. The position is performed in a fast-paced grocery environment and may involve working in cooler and freezer temperatures.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent and experience working in grocery, restaurant, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Dependable and reliable.
• Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Good communication skills and ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Ability to lift and carry products weighing up to 70 pounds, from 4 to 60 inches in height, for up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance, for up to 4 hours.
• Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
• Ability to work in different temperature environments, including coolers and freezers.
• Ability to operate slicers, wrapping equipment, and cooking equipment.

Responsibilities

• Help customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh and easy meals.
• Provide a high level of customer service and ensure deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented.
• Maintain cleanliness in the deli department and keep deli areas and equipment safe and sanitary.
• Fill, maintain, and rotate products and displays.
• Prepare special orders and party trays; answer phones and take special orders.
• Operate meat and cheese slicers, ovens, microwaves, cutting tools, scales, wrapping equipment, and other deli equipment according to company standards and procedures.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
• Perform housekeeping, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas, shelves, products, tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers; remove spills and hazardous debris and sweep.
• Assist in maintaining equipment in safe working condition.
• Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
