About The Position

The Deli Clerk works in Sprouts Farmers Market’s deli department, helping customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh, convenient meals. The role provides customer service and ensures deli products are prepared, packaged, and presented properly, while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work area. The clerk stocks, maintains, and rotates products and displays; prepares special orders and party trays; operates deli equipment according to company standards; and receives and checks products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality. The position also involves general housekeeping, safe equipment upkeep, and other related duties as assigned. Work takes place in a fast-paced grocery environment and may involve cooler and freezer areas.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in grocery, restaurant, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to lift and carry products weighing up to 70 pounds, from 4 to 60 inches in height, for up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance, for up to 4 hours.
Be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
Be able to operate a slicer, wrapping equipment, and cooking equipment.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
Be able to work in different temperature environments, including coolers and freezers.

Responsibilities

Help customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh and easy meals.
Provide a high level of customer service and ensure deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented.
Maintain cleanliness in the deli department.
Fill, maintain, and rotate products and displays.
Prepare special orders and party trays, and answer phones to take special orders.
Operate meat and cheese slicers, ovens, microwaves, cutting tools, scales, wrapping equipment, cooking equipment, and other deli equipment according to company standards and procedures.
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary deli area and equipment, including cleaning shelves and products, preventing or removing floor spills and hazardous debris, and sweeping.
Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Assist in maintaining equipment in safe working condition.
Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
