About The Position

We are looking for an Experienced Deli Associate to join our family-owned Italian grocery and assist the Deli in serving delicious and delectable meats, cold cuts, and prepared foods. The Experienced Deli Associate contributes to the company’s operation and success by assisting customers and maintaining a neat, efficient, and sanitary department. Attributes that contribute to success in this role include outstanding customer service skills, being able to excel and thrive in a fast-paced work environment, and familiarity with best practices surrounding food safety and storage.

Requirements

• At least 2 years’ previous experience in a grocery store, deli, or other related experience.
• Available to close a minimum of 3 nights per week.
• Can work independently with minimal supervision.
• Requires minimal training and can perform job functions at a high level immediately upon start.
• Can interact cordially with customers; including educating customers on products and offering suggestions.
• Can operate a label printing deli scale and possesses basic math skills.
• Can lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Utilizing a slicing machine and other cutting tools to cut meats and cheeses as per customer specifications.
• Utilizing other cooking equipment to complete preparation of orders (microwave, oven, fryer, etc.).
• Preparing customer orders, including custom and specialty requests, for individual consumption or for party trays or catered events.
• Keeping salads and other available dishes in displays stocked and visually appealing while ensuring freshness of those items.
• Moving large slabs of meat and cheese from coolers to cutting area and vice-versa to maintain safe temperatures of goods at all times.
• Monitoring the freshness of deli items by ensuring the proper temperatures are maintained in storage and display areas.
• Discarding expired items (or food products that are no longer fresh or in satisfactory condition) in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Providing high quality customer service by engaging customers and responding to questions.
• Maintaining a sanitary and tidy work area including: cleaning cases, shelves, and equipment; sweeping and mopping floors; ensuring proper safety signage.
