About The Position

The Defined Contribution Investment Director leads the investment team within the AMG Investment Office supporting the Retirement Solutions / Fiduciary Investment Services (FIS) line of business. This role is responsible for investment strategy, fiduciary oversight, retirement plan advisor support, and thought leadership, while also managing and developing an investment team. The Director partners closely with business leaders, advisors, legal and risk partners, and external vendors to support client retention, growth, and high quality fiduciary outcomes for a growing business.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in institutional retirement plan investments, fiduciary services, or investment advisory leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of ERISA, 3(21) and 3(38) fiduciary services, investment due diligence, and retirement plan structures.
  • Demonstrated people management experience with a track record of developing high performing teams.
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to influence senior business partners, advisors, and clients.

  • At least 5 years of prior management experience is typically required.
  • In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional investment or fiduciary designations (e.g., CFA®) preferred.
  • Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable.
  • Industry experience is typically 8+ years.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the Retirement Solutions investment philosophy, including lineup construction, asset class preferences, active/passive implementation, and approved investment vehicles.
  • Oversee fiduciary investment due diligence processes for 3(21) and 3(38) services in alignment with Investment Policy Statements and internal control standards.
  • Represent the organization as a 3(38) Investment Manager, including reviewing and approving Investment Policy Statements, evaluating client requested changes, and partnering with Legal on material updates.
  • Serve as a trusted investment resource to Retirement Plan Advisors by providing guidance on client specific investment questions, lineup construction, and target date fund reviews.
  • Participate in client and prospect meetings as requested, offering investment observations, insights, and presentation support.
  • Train newly hired advisors on investment philosophy, fiduciary processes, reporting tools, and investment protocols, and provide ongoing advisor education.
  • Partner with Line of Business leadership to align on strategic objectives.
  • Create and deliver investment thought leadership and educational content for clients, prospects, and advisors, including webinars and presentations.
  • Contribute to sales and marketing efforts by reviewing or drafting investment related RFP responses and presentation materials.
  • Manage key vendor relationships (e.g., investment analytics and reporting platforms) and ensure service standards are met.
  • Lead investment related technology initiatives and system enhancements to improve advisor oversight, reporting accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Partner with asset managers to identify opportunities for lower cost vehicle access and enhanced investment solutions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of investment professionals, fostering accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Align team priorities with business strategy, client needs, and retention goals.
  • Manages and guides respective team.
  • Sources and monitors investment managers.
  • Drives strategy which includes creating and implementing processes and best practices and coordinating with business lines to align IAR efforts with business line goals.
  • Provides sales support and subject matter expertise to the investment field.
  • Provides input to portfolios and partners with Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management to publish thought leadership.
  • Coordinates across business lines to align goals of alternative, traditional or operational due diligence teams.
  • Determines and implements strategy to support and meet the business line goals.
  • Provides sales support across business lines to retain existing clients and attract new clients where appropriate.
  • Designs and oversees creation of educational materials and regular reports to enhance the knowledge of the investment field and the client experience.
  • Participates in client or prospect meetings with the largest and most sophisticated clients who tend to be the most demanding and sensitive.
  • Monitors and selects managers within assigned coverage area for the platform and/or portfolios.
  • Continuously improves platform, applicable processes and PNC's subject matter expertise by screening third party databases, attending industry conferences and networking with industry contacts.
  • Develops and implements internal investment advisor research processes focused on manager selection, monitoring and risk management.
  • Manages analysts and associates in execution of team strategy.
