About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Deck Machinist Mate for MARMC Code 255 to provide technical services and assessments on US Navy Auxiliary equipment. The candidate will operate, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, onboard maintenance training, assessment, inspection, and grooming on Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, and Chocks. This role involves conducting engineering/technical evaluations, performing equipment functional checks, diagnosing operational faults, and providing training to ship's force personnel. The position also supports shipboard Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) tasks, including Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA), Combat Systems Command Control Communications and Computer Readiness assessments (CRA), Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs, and Fleet Tech Assist (FTA) events. Responsibilities include scheduling, coordination, and documentation for technical assistance and assessment support processes, analyzing and resolving malfunctions, recommending repairs, advising on engineering changes, and facilitating installations and repairs. The technician must be able to observe equipment operation, use measuring/test equipment, document findings, and provide debriefs to ship's leadership. A Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) will be completed for all jobs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Active secret US government clearance.
  • US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time hands-on technician-level experience, within the last 7 years, working on US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to, Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, Chocks, Boat Davit Cranes, Cargo Cranes, and Knuckle-Boom Cranes.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the official capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, Chocks, Boat Davit Cranes, Cargo Cranes, and Knuckle-Boom Cranes for a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, ship visit procedures, and post-visit reporting methods.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, assessing, and inspecting shipboard systems and equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for identifying causes of equipment casualties.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, and piping drawings.
  • Demonstrated recent experience (within two years) maintaining and operating Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, Chocks, Boat Davit Cranes, Cargo Cranes, and Knuckle-Boom Cranes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct specified engineering/technical evaluations and perform equipment functional checks.
  • Perform troubleshooting, testing, analysis, operational oversight, maintenance oversight, and diagnose operational faults for installed US Navy systems.
  • Provide training to ship’s force personnel in the operation, repair, maintenance, and logistics support of listed systems.
  • Provide support for shipboard Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) tasks including, but not limited to, Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA), Combat Systems Command Control Communications and Computer Readiness assessments (CRA), Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs, and Fleet Tech Assist (FTA) events.
  • Manage scheduling, coordination, and documentation for the MARMC technical assistance and assessment support process.
  • Assist ship’s force technicians and government personnel to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation, maintenance, and/or testing.
  • Analyze equipment operational and inspection data to determine the source of the fault, recommend repair, and assist with corrective actions.
  • Advise on equipment/system engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability.
  • Facilitate installations, maintenance, and repair actions.
  • Observe operation of the equipment to witness full range of performance, note conditions and parameters for any out-of-specification readings and/or degradations.
  • Utilize measuring/test equipment required for troubleshooting, including dial indicators, milliamp process clamp meters, digital insulation testers, Infra-Red (IR) thermometers, clamp-on current meters, digital tachometers, multimeters, etc.
  • Provide on-the-job training to Ship’s Force personnel in the operation, troubleshooting, root cause identification, accomplishment of repairs, and testing of assigned equipment.
  • Document and submit written feedback to correct errors/omissions in equipment documentation (technical manuals, Preventive Maintenance Systems (PMS) cards, Allowance Parts Lists (APLs), ship’s drawings, schematics, etc.).
  • Provide written/oral debriefs to the ship’s Chief Engineer (CHENG) and/or other designated Officer of all actions taken and the status of the equipment and/or system.
  • Complete a Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) for all jobs and provide a copy to all appropriate stakeholders.
