About The Position

Newport News Shipbuilding has an exciting leadership opportunity to support Propulsion Plant machinery for the United States aircraft carrier fleet (both Nimitz Class and Ford Class). The role will serve in the Machinery Department of our aircraft carrier fleet's design yard and fleet support team, and will lead a team of 8 - 12 engineers. Engineering Manager 2's within the department support turbines, diesel engines, generators, voltage regulators, motor controllers, governors, motors, pumps, reduction gears for main propulsion, and heat exchangers - to include overall propulsion plant operations. You and your team will own the design of Ford Class equipment while supporting the build, test, and installation on new aircraft carriers, to include testing at suppliers across the United States. You and your team will also support the Nimitz and Ford Class delivered fleet assets, from keeping the machinery operating with the Navy to supporting logistics, design improvements, and maintenance.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; OR Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with or working for the US Navy is beneficial, especially within the Nuclear Navy.
Experience with rotating machinery, power generation, controls, or heat exchangers is beneficial.
Prior professional leadership experience is preferred.
