About The Position

Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. Electricians can be working on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship including lighting, power distribution, communication or navigation. Electricians read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job of an electrician is unique in that it requires an individual that can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
  • Ability to work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
  • Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to work while repeatedly reaching overhead.
  • Ability to work indoors or outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in areas with radiation.
  • Ability to take and pass a respirator fit test.
  • Ability to work assigned shift as production needs.
  • Ability to take and pass a Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of electrical systems aboard the ship.
  • Working on electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, communication, or navigation.
  • Reading and interpreting complex electrical and electronic schematics.
  • Switching between differing tasks such as lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.
