About The Position

Cleans, deburrs, polishes, or grinds items of metal, plastic, or rubber by performing the following duties with relevant equipment. This role involves deburring or polishing parts, mounting parts on a revolving spindle or chuck, and using tools such as files, abrasive stones, or cloths against the workpiece. The position also includes tumbling parts per work instructions with tumbling equipment, cleaning interior surfaces of holes, and changing tools on powered equipment. Additionally, the employee will apply abrasive compound, wax, or other dressing to facilitate cleaning or polishing operations.

Requirements

• Measure parts using a variety of inspection equipment micrometers, calipers, gage pins and thread gages
• Equivalent to high school education or related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Frequently required to stand and walk.
• Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and controls operation of computerized deburring and tooling machine to perform series of machining operations, such as drilling, chamfering, and deburring, on ball-shaped plastic typing element for use in electric typewriters.
• Reads blueprints, job order, and tooling instructions to determine cutting tools and sequence of operations.
• Positions and secures deburring and cutting tools onto holding fixtures of machine, using hand tools.
• Observes machining operation to detect feeding and tooling malfunctions as typing element is automatically fed through series of tooling stations.
• Adjusts and changes machine tools to ensure deburring meets company specifications.
• Repairs or replaces parts, such as cylinders and air lines, using hand tools.
• Inspects machined typing elements at discharge end of machine to ensure conformance to quality specifications, using gauges and microscope.
• Notifies engineering personnel when corrective action is required.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
