About The Position

The Dean of Students will advance the mission of Hill Country Christian School by assisting administration in the engagement of student programs and expectations through relational and Christ-centered school discipline. This role involves providing vision and leadership for student culture, leading student-facing events, and administering student discipline in accordance with the school's Christ-centered culture and handbook policies. The Dean will also partner with parents, collaborate with other staff, and ensure student safety and appropriate use of school devices.

Requirements

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience working with secondary students in a Christian school or church setting is required.
  • Must understand and be able to articulate how to effectively integrate the Christian Faith into the culture of this school, especially as it relates to student discipline and growth.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and organization in building programs, solving problems, and managing multiple projects and tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate degree in the field of education is preferred.
  • Administration experience in a Christian school is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leading, developing, and implementing programs, initiatives, and activities that foster a positive student culture aligned with the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school.
  • Assigning faculty and staff duties to ensure students are properly supervised and supported during non-instructional time.
  • Developing and directing effective student discipleship and mentorship programs, including the small-group advisory program.
  • Serving as the administrative point person for planning and coordinating Hill Country Go Week for students and faculty.
  • Helping plan and facilitate parent education programs for families.
  • Maintaining a highly visible presence on campus, particularly during passing periods, lunches, chapels, study halls, and student assemblies.
  • Volunteering to serve as the administrator on duty for athletic events from time to time.
  • Leading the administration of student discipline in accordance with the handbook and in support of the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school.
  • Promoting, upholding, and enforcing expectations for student conduct and appearance as stated in the handbook, intervening and assigning consequences as necessary.
  • Partnering with parents in ensuring there is a gospel-oriented approach to student growth.
  • Collaborating with the High School Principals and other staff to review, update, and enforce handbook policies.
  • Assisting the High School Principals in reviewing teachers’ classroom management plans and practices, offering classroom support when needed.
  • Working closely with the High School Principal to enforce the bullying policy, adjudicating any alleged middle school bullying issues and communicating with parents throughout the process.
  • Assigning and maintaining a record of student lockers, ensuring appropriate use and regular maintenance of lockers.
  • Assisting in implementing and upholding student and campus safety drills, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborating with the High School Administrative Assistant and the Registrar to track tardies and absences for high school students, contacting parents and assigning consequences as needed.
  • Generating student tardy and attendance reports through the school’s student information system.
  • Ensuring high school students use school-issued devices appropriately.
  • Receiving and evaluating electronic data from students’ school devices, flagging and vetting questionable content, and assigning consequences as needed.
  • Serving on the school’s threat assessment team and any other safety-related groups as needed.
  • Other duties related to student expectations and policies as assigned.
