About The Position

The management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve. Under the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Students will serve as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, student conduct and attendance, athletics and extracurricular programs, school plant operations, and the supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel.

Requirements

  • Valid PA Certification as School Counselor
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrates commitment to Universal’s mission and success.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Participates in training and professional development activities.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with peers.
  • Abides by applicable Universal Companies policies and procedures and state and federal education regulations.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Have 3-5 years of experience in a school setting, monitoring and supervising school climate and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Administer student discipline and Universal Companies policies and procedures related to student conduct, discipline and student rights and responsibilities.
  • Maintain building standards for student conduct.
  • Recommend suspensions and expulsions for administrative approval.
  • Supervise students in lunchrooms, hallways, classes, on buses, activities and curricular program, and other programs held under Universal’s sanction.
  • Liaise with parents on discipline and attendance matters and contacts parents as needed.
  • Conduct parent, student and teacher conferences on discipline and attendance.
  • Maintain positive public and community relations.
  • Conduct investigations related to student conduct and complaints.
  • Coordinate with school security, police, parents, students, the community, and the public and other agencies.
  • Provide recommendations to administrators as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of school leadership team.
  • Attend staff and student meetings, communicate information, participates in instructional development within the school and provide a variety of insights, recommendations, and reports.
  • Assist in implementing building decisions.
  • Monitor students during lunch periods.
  • Perform related work as required.
