About The Position

Provides leadership to plan, organize and manage all of the student success programs, services and activities related to students specifically, the following: Registrar; Admissions; Enrollment; Recruitment, Financial Aid; Dual Credit; Child Care; Counseling/Accommodations; Advisement/Tutoring Services; Student Residential Services; Athletic Department; Student Life & Activities; Snack Shop; Career Services; Bookstore. This position description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Student Services, Student Development, Counseling, School Administration, or related field.
  • Seven years work experience in leading student services in a higher education environment.
  • Three years in a management or supervisory capacity.
  • Valid and clean state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of student services policies, practices and requirements.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico Higher Education Department student services policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation processes and issues.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
  • Skill in managing student home living environment, student financial aid, and student social and recreational activities.
  • Counseling and advising skills.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in providing leadership to, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.

Responsibilities

  • Develops departmental plans, goals and objectives and ensures compliance to contractual obligations and requirements.
  • Plans, formulates and recommends policies and programs that will further the objectives of the student services.
  • Establishes, implements and communicates goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership in and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to student life, especially those related to alcohol and drug usage, student conduct and student residences.
  • Develops and coordinates policies and procedures relative to all student activities; oversees annual production of Student Handbook and other documents.
  • Administers the policies and regulations of the University as they pertain to students, including internal student government responsibilities, judicial and disciplinary procedures.
  • Coordinates enrollment management for the University.
  • Plans, directs and participates in activities related to student counseling, student advisement, and career counseling services at multiple campuses. Works closely with all University constituencies in efforts to enhance student services in the assigned departments and functional areas.
  • Provides planning and operations assistance to executive management of the University through active participation and leadership on task forces, committees and councils.
  • Develops and presents reports and recommendations for a variety of programs and projects, and integrates the functions of the division in a manner that is responsive to student needs, the campus and the community.
  • Implements an effective system for assessment of operations and goals to include processes for feedback and improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with instructional faculty and academic support programs to facilitate and enhance student services for assigned areas.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing and administering annual budget; presenting and justifying budget recommendations to appropriate personnel.
  • Represents the University at community and external organization functions.
  • Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of department activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information per FERPA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding departmental activities.
  • Supervises and manages personnel which include hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  • Oversees the daily operations of student services.
  • Preparing and maintaining departmental budgets and oversee compliance throughout fiscal year; time keeping and approval.
