About The Position

Magellan International School (MIS) in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Dean of Student Life. This role will also teach up to two courses. The Dean of Student Life will create a progressive learning environment where students demonstrate critical thinking and uphold the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. The Dean of Student Life will support students’ academic and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education; or a Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field with Secondary Teacher Certification.
  • Minimum of three years of Secondary School classroom experience.
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments.
  • A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
  • If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9.
  • You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • IB MYP and/or DP experience preferred.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Toddle, and Apple Mac platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice or similar frameworks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner in the organization of school traditions, assemblies and events.
  • Oversee student government serving as the advisor to the high school student government.
  • Collaborate with administration to co-create and manage leadership and character programming.
  • Coordinate service learning activities.
  • Co-create and clarify student handbook items as it relates to the code of conduct.
  • Oversee the advising program, ensuring the integration of Social Institute activities and the AI curriculum (Eblana) into the program.
  • Partner with the Student Support Resources team to offer mental health resources and professional development to better equip teachers to support student well-being.
  • Co-lead Student Focus Meetings to ensure faculty are aware of student support action items.
  • Serve as a mediator for peer conflicts.
  • Teach up to two classes at the Secondary level.
  • Co-lead the “Extended Studies” (student travel) program.
  • Serve as the faculty liaison to the parent association (MISPA).
  • Performs other duties as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice.
