About The Position

KIPP Capital Region is seeking a Dean of Science for grades 9-12. This role is part of a national network of high-performing public charter schools dedicated to fostering joyful, academically excellent environments that prepare students for college, career, and beyond. Located in Albany and Troy, NY, KIPP Capital Region serves over 2,500 students in grades K-12 across seven schools. The Dean of Academics is responsible for instructional coaching of teachers, academic outcomes for students, and supporting the culture, climate, and social-emotional learning and development of high school grade levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years required as a Lead Teacher with a proven record of results.
  • Proficiency in managing a team, coaching teachers, and/or designing curriculum, preferably in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1+ years preferred coaching teachers in both academics and Culture & Climate.
  • Experience developing academic policies, systems, and school wide analysis and data collection preferred.
  • Prior experience working in urban schools and communities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support and coaching to teachers to ensure each student reaches their academic potential.
  • Support academic operations related to curriculum, assessments, and the school’s instructional guidelines.
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, responsible for implementing and overseeing systems for academic operations and teacher development.
  • Observe instructional delivery and provide feedback to enhance teacher content area development, supporting unit and lesson design for year-long curriculum.
  • Analyze data to modify curriculum and assessments to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to support the sharing of best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel to advise principals and teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for struggling students.
  • Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Team on the design and implementation of school-wide assessments.
  • Make instructional decisions based on student performance in collaboration with campus-based leaders.
  • Cultivate a standards-based, data and results-oriented culture.
  • Observe teachers and provide specific strategies for improved instructional delivery.
  • Work with teachers and school leadership teams to create and improve aligned curriculum resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers in determining appropriate resources and support.
  • Support teachers by providing feedback on lessons and assessments that align with school college-readiness standards.
  • Serve as an expert in national trends and best practices in curriculum development and instructional strategy for historically underachieving students.
  • Serve as a teacher coach by providing expert advice on improving and enhancing individual lessons and units based on ongoing analysis, including reviewing lesson plans, unit plans, and assessments; understanding scope and sequence models; observing classroom instruction and offering feedback; providing instructional strategy best practice training; and developing and facilitating professional development.
  • Support the development of curriculum using the backward design model and advising scope and sequence based on essential content knowledge that addresses local, state, and national standards.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee aspects of instructional guidelines, including adherence to assessment calendars, data entry (grades), and data analysis/action planning.
  • Make recommendations on best practices for supporting curriculum alignment across all grade levels within the specified content area.
  • Ensure high expectations for scholars are maintained in each classroom and by all teachers.
  • Work with all teachers to ensure they constantly communicate with parents regarding instructional-related gaps and improvements for students.
