About The Position

The Dean of Students actively drives student behavioral outcomes by coordinating positive behavior strategies, including facilitating professional development focusing on restorative practices and developing a positive student culture and climate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of one year of successful student discipline experience
  • Minimum of one year of successful experience planning and facilitating professional development
  • Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
  • Valid California Drivers’ License
  • Knowledge of restorative justice approach to discipline
  • Knowledge of restorative practices
  • Knowledge of current research-based practices and trends as they relate to work scope
  • Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogy
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and change management theory
  • Knowledge of effective professional development practices, including data-based inquiry
  • Ability to assess, support, and monitor behavioral program effectiveness
  • Ability to use, analyze and develop action plans from data
  • Ability to implement collaborative and team building processes
  • Ability to plan, implement and monitor high-leverage professional development
  • Ability to facilitate dissent and conduct difficult and constructive conversations effectively
  • Ability to provide timely and actionable feedback
  • Ability to provoke, inspire and motivate others to achieve goals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse communities
  • Ability to manage various projects and/or demands demonstrating flexibility and effective time-management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and confidentiality to earn the trust and respect of the LPS community to leverage student support options

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data consistently to plan, develop, implement, monitor and coordinate a positive school culture
  • Monitor student discipline and attendance data to implement systematic and targeted interventions
  • Establish effective and research-based school-wide restorative practices
  • Model restorative justice approach to student discipline
  • Train others in restorative justice approach to discipline
  • Facilitate restorative conversations between/among students/staff
  • Coordinate student re-entry from suspensions
  • Compile and utilize timely data consistently to address targeted areas of school culture and climate
  • Collaborate with staff to recommend best practices and identify appropriate disciplinary action
  • Communicate and effectively and collaborate with students, families, staff and support agencies to ensure positive outcomes
  • Develop and coordinate student programs to promote positive student culture and climate
  • Serve on school leadership teams as assigned
  • Develop positive relationships with school community that are aligned with LPS’ culture and values
  • Perform related duties as assigned
