About The Position

The College of the Albemarle (COA) is seeking a Dean of Business, Industry and Applied Technologies (BIAT) to provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for assigned programs within the Division of Learning. This position is primarily located at COA - Currituck in Barco, NC. The Dean reports to the Vice President of Learning and is responsible for program quality, curriculum development, enrollment, personnel leadership, budget administration, assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement. The Dean will lead faculty, staff, department chairs, and program coordinators, collaborating with other leaders to support student success and institutional priorities. Additionally, the Dean will foster relationships with business, industry, educational institutions, workforce partners, advisory committees, and community organizations to ensure programs remain responsive to regional needs. The Dean also acts as a liaison between the division and college administration, participating in institutional planning, policy development, and resource allocation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business administration, education, higher education administration, information technology, industrial technology, workforce development, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible administrative, supervisory, or academic leadership experience.
  • Minimum of four years of teaching, workforce development, industry, or other directly related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising personnel and managing programs, budgets, or organizational operations.
  • Applicants must be permitted to legally work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, leadership, and supervision for division programs, personnel, and operations.
  • Develop, review, and assess division goals, objectives, and Unit Action Plans (UAPs), ensuring timely reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with national, state, regional accreditor, and college policies and procedures, including documentation and program accreditation standards.
  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, emerging technologies, workforce trends, and applicable regulatory requirements, adapting programs accordingly.
  • Submit recommendations concerning programs and personnel within the division to the VPL.
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate division faculty, staff, department chairs, and program coordinators, encouraging professional development.
  • Oversee program and curriculum development, including evaluating and updating instructional programs, assessing equipment needs, and implementing new programs.
  • Collaborate with other deans and college leaders to coordinate program offerings, class scheduling, space requirements, and academic success initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee budgets, grant and contract management, and fiscal operations; ensure regulatory compliance and timely reporting.
  • Serve as liaison with businesses, community organizations, and educational partners to assess needs, promote programs, and expand partnerships.
  • Coordinate student success strategies, address student concerns and appeals, and ensure due process.
  • Utilize performance metrics, labor market data, advisory boards, and program reviews to guide decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Lead collaborative efforts in marketing, recruitment, and engagement for division programs.
  • Participate as a leader in institutional planning and effectiveness, college committees, and cross-divisional college initiatives.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and provide insight into their impact on the Division of Learning.
  • Protect student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, state law, and college policy.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Learning or President.
  • Support ongoing compliance with all college, Board of Trustees, and North Carolina Community College System policies and procedures.
