This is an ESC Local 20 represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining. In addition to meeting the criteria for an “Nuclear Journey Level, this category is for an individual that has acquired extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices, and works independently with only general direction. This individual will provide technical direction and completes assignments that require integration with other departments and are of broad scope and complexity. Position has wide-ranging expertise and unique experience and “advanced” expertise in the quality area. May be required to fill a rotation in the DCPP Emergency Response Organization (ERO) as necessary. To obtain and maintain employment, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.

Requirements

A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1-1993
Mastery of the Associate and Journey level Engineer job duties and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Senior Engineer.
Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and related science.
Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.

Nice To Haves

A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in structural engineering; graduate degree (M.S./M.A./Ph.D.) preferred
Current and active California Professional Engineer (PE) license (Civil or Structural) desirable
Demonstrated experience in structural and/or seismic analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures in operating facilities
Experience supporting the long‑term performance and condition assessment of structures, including evaluation of aging, degradation mechanisms, and life‑extension considerations
Experience developing, reviewing, and approving engineering calculations, design changes, and technical justifications to ensure continued compliance with established design and licensing bases
Demonstrated ability to serve as a responsible or lead engineer for complex civil/structural scopes, providing technical direction to engineers, designers, and contracted resources
Experience providing project engineering support, including scope development, engineering oversight, design integration, and coordination with project management, operations, maintenance, and work control organizations
Experience performing or reviewing seismic evaluations, structural anchorage designs, and the qualification of structures and components subject to dynamic or abnormal loading
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASCE and related seismic and anchorage provisions) as applied to safety‑related and industrial structures
Experience evaluating and resolving degraded or nonconforming conditions, including development of concrete and steel repair strategies and support of field implementation
Ability to perform and/or review temporary condition evaluations, such as construction loads, temporary supports, scaffolding, rigging, or other short‑term structural configurations
Experience supporting planned and emergent work in an operating plant environment, including providing timely engineering support during periods of elevated work activity
Demonstrated capability to integrate multi‑discipline technical inputs and apply conservative engineering judgment in making safety‑significant decisions
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical conclusions to plant leadership, peers, and external stakeholders
Proven ability to mentor and coach engineers, promote high engineering standards, and reinforce a strong nuclear safety culture

Responsibilities

Provides technical expertise and performs engineering and technical analyses, studies, and develops conceptual solutions
Develops and reviews design documents and design changes to ensure plant design basis is maintained
Presents findings and conclusions to internal organizations, contractors, outside vendors, regulators and management.
Prepares written technical documents such as design criteria, specifications, calculations and reports.
Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations.
Works independently with only general direction and clearly communicates with Engineering Supervisor
Maintains a key focus on nuclear, industrial and radiological safety
May perform functions of Associate and Journey level Engineers
Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices in engineering to resolve complex problems
Works well with Operations, Maintenance, Work Control and Senior Management
Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards.
Completes assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources.
Applies aging management strategies for life extension consistent with codes, standards and license
Assesses business conditions, identifies efficiency opportunities, and develops programs to enhance nuclear generation business positions.
Provides leadership, direction, and assistance to technical employees and teams. Coaches and develops others.
