About The Position

The DC Shop Technician will work in a fabrication shop environment, utilizing basic hand and power tools to perform accurate measurements, cutting, and fitting of both off-the-shelf and custom components. This role involves fabricating various materials including plastics, polymers, metals, alloys, and fiberglass for structural members, piping, enclosures, and panel construction. The technician will also be involved in electrical wiring for control panels, motors, drives, instrumentation, and electronics. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and organized workspace, interpreting and fabricating per design drawings, identifying potential fabrication issues, and redlining drawings for engineering correction. The role may also include administrative tasks, building maintenance, and equipment maintenance or installation. Overtime may be required during peak periods, and some time may be spent at client facilities for installation or repair.

Requirements

  • Must exhibit strong fabrication skills with focus on producing accurate results.
  • Works well within a team environment to solve project and business issues.
  • Must be a good self-starter and has the ability and desire to learn new equipment, hardware, techniques, and products.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to details.
  • Basic math skills including use of fractions.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and fabrication equipment, such as power saws.

Nice To Haves

  • Interpreting fabrication drawings, schematics and diagrams for mechanical, piping and electrical systems
  • Ability to measure, mark, cutt, trim and shape materials like metal, plastic, or wood.
  • Welding, brazing and soldering pieces to create finished parts.
  • Understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical fabrication, construction, and manipulation methods.
  • Good troubleshooting, testing and maintenance skills for mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Strong candidates will demonstrate spatial reasoning, communication and observational skills.
  • Understanding of prioritization of work as it relates to project scheduling and execution.
  • Technical Trade School training or equivalent experience in mechanical and electrical drafting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized work environment.
  • Work in fabrication shop utilizing basic hand and power tools, taking accurate measurements, cutting and fitting off- the-shelf and custom components.
  • Read, interpret, and fabricated per project design drawings.
  • Rationalize design drawings, identifying problems related to fabrication prior to execution.
  • Fabrication with various plastics and polymer structural members, and piping, including fitting, joining, sealing, and welding.
  • Fabrication with various Metal and Alloy Pipe and Tubing, including fitting, joining, sealing, and bending.
  • Fabrication with various Metals, Plastics, and Bonded Conduit, including fitting, joining, sealing, and bending.
  • Fabrication with various Metallic and Fiberglass structural members, including Strut, Beam, Channel, Angle, Grate, etc.
  • Fabrication with various Metallic and fiberglass enclosures, panel construction, and Electrical Wiring.
  • Fabrication with various Electrical Wiring in Control Panels, Induction and DC Motors, Variable Frequency and DC Drives, Instrumentation and Electronics.
  • Redline design drawings to be resubmitted to the Engineering Department for correction based on final construction.
  • Perform administrative and related responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform building maintenance as needed and assigned.
  • Perform equipment maintenance or installation as needed and assigned.
