L2 DC Technician

About The Position

This role involves performing hands-on technical tasks within a data center environment. The technician will be responsible for the physical installation, cabling, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, network devices, and storage equipment. This includes tasks such as rack and stack, cable management, hardware replacement, firmware updates, and basic configuration. The technician will also collaborate with network administrators to resolve server-related issues and assist with temporary hardware setups for remote configuration.

Requirements

  • Experience with rack & stack of servers, network devices, and storage equipment
  • Proficiency in handling fiber and copper cabling, including labeling and cable management
  • Experience supporting installation, relocation, and decommissioning of hardware
  • Ability to troubleshoot server issues and identify root causes
  • Experience ordering and installing replacement server parts
  • Experience updating server firmware
  • Experience configuring IP addresses and default login credentials on servers
  • Ability to assist network administrators with server and switch-related issues
  • Familiarity with replacing cables, re-routing cables, replacing optics, and swapping server parts
  • Ability to temporarily rack and stack equipment for remote configuration

Responsibilities

  • Perform rack & stack of servers, network devices, and storage equipment
  • Handle cabling (fiber & copper) including labeling and cable management
  • Support installation, relocation, and decommissioning of hardware
  • Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate the problem that the server is encountering
  • Order replacement parts and install them in servers and ship back the defective part to their respective vendors
  • Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed
  • Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers
  • Assist network admins on any issues they are having with a server that can range from: replacing broken or damaged cables, re-routing cables to different ports on the server or switch, replacing optics on both server and switch ports, changing out parts and installing upgraded versions of those parts in servers
  • Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch in a cabinet and cable it so the network admin can remotely log in and run configurations on device
  • Assist network admins who reach out requesting specific assistance with servers or switch
