About The Position

This limited-term employment (LTE) position performs custodial maintenance to keep the school facility clean and orderly so it can be used for educational purposes. The custodian reports to the Maintenance Manager and carries out cleaning, equipment care, supply handling, event setup, grounds assistance, snow removal, and other duties as assigned. The position is available to start now.

Requirements

Knowledge of custodial principles, practices, and safety principles.
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Skill in using equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and verbal instructions.
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
Ability to operate vacuums and related equipment and safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and understand written and verbal communications.
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with people contacted during work activities.
Ability to complete assigned tasks independently.
Ability to work in environments with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, heavy-duty lifting, and occasional inclement weather.
Ability to safely navigate exposure to cleaning agents, potential electrical hazards, and various types of cleaning equipment.
Ability and willingness to follow basic safety precautions when working with hazards or physical risks.
Ability to perform heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; physical work is more than 70% of the job.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
General trades knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities

Dust and mop floors.
Vacuum carpets and clean spills, debris, or contaminants from floors and carpets.
Clean lint, dust, and dirt from lockers, tabletops, door frames, window frames, walls, and other furniture.
Clean restrooms and restock paper and soap supplies.
Perform routine care for custodial equipment and supplies.
Empty trash receptacles and bag trash for proper disposal.
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Assist with loading and unloading supplies as needed.
Arrange boxes, materials, and other supplies neatly and orderly.
Set up and tear down tables and chairs for functions and events, including daily setup and teardown of lunch and cafeteria spaces.
Place traffic cones in the parking lot each morning and remove them at the end of the school day.
Assist with maintenance of grounds and the building exterior.
Assist with snow removal and other emergency situations.
Assist maintenance personnel with repair work as directed.
Perform miscellaneous job-related and other related duties as assigned.
