About The Position

PLA teachers lead with creativity and rigor to improve scholars’ learning experiences and foster a caring environment that supports the school community. The Flex Teacher works with each teacher of record to help scholars master the academic and social skills needed to succeed, supports ambitious achievement goals, and holds scholars accountable for meeting them. The Flex Teacher is expected to become the teacher of record if a teacher vacancy becomes available. The role is at Higher Institute of Arts and Technology (HIAT), a charter school in Merrillville, Indiana, serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade and providing an educational experience focused on arts and technology. Key deliverables include ensuring scholars meet projected growth goals in ELA and math, achieve strong classroom satisfaction and attendance, persist through the academic year, and make growth when performing below grade level.

Requirements

Passion for working with students and families in underserved communities.
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with appropriate endorsements if applicable.
Valid state teacher license or enrollment in a credentialing program.
Effective pedagogical skills driven by standards and data-driven assessment.
Experience tracking and using data to drive instruction.

Responsibilities

Work with each teacher of record to support scholars’ academic and social skill development.
Help set ambitious student achievement goals and hold scholars accountable for accomplishing them.
Support scholars in meeting projected growth goals in ELA and math, persisting through the academic year, attending regularly, and achieving growth when below grade level.
Become the teacher of record if a teacher vacancy becomes available.
Track and use data to drive instruction.
