About The Position

Trails Park and Recreation District is hiring a part-time Lifeguard for its aquatics facility in Centennial, Colorado. Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, and Head Guards, the Lifeguard recognizes and responds to emergencies and enforces facility rules and regulations. The role requires sound critical thinking and decision-making, the ability to work with diverse populations, and professional, fair, and respectful conduct with patrons and coworkers. The position is for daytime availability, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. Lifeguards must maintain their certification through required training and meetings. Free certification training is available to applicants who are not currently certified. Trails Park and Recreation District supports recreation, wellness, and community connection through parks, trails, facilities, programs, and events. Requirements

StarGuard Lifeguard or Shallow Water Lifeguard training certification, including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; free training is available for applicants who are not currently certified.
Availability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Daytime availability Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain a safe environment and perform quality work.
Reliable transportation or another means of arriving at work shifts on time.
Ability to understand and follow policies, procedures, and verbal and written instructions from management.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to react to emergencies with quick movements and strenuous activity and, on occasion, assist or lift people in distress.
Ability to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for varying lengths of time.
Ability to swim 300 yards, tread water for two minutes using legs only, retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool, and swim back to the starting point with the brick out of the water.
Ability to talk to and/or hear managers, coworkers, and the general public.
Ability to lift, carry, and transport aquatics equipment or other objects up to 50 pounds assisted.
Ability to handle moderate-to-high-stress situations while maintaining a positive attitude.

Previous lifeguarding experience.

Responsibilities

Actively guard and scan the pool area while on rotation.
Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies by activating the Emergency Action Plan.
Enforce pool rules and regulations and follow internal policies to reduce hazards and help keep employees and patrons safe.
Maintain and clean aquatics facilities, including locker rooms, pool deck, guard office, storage, chemical and mechanical rooms, activity pool, lap pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, and slides.
Maintain lifeguard certification in accordance with District and StarGuard policies by attending required trainings and meetings.
Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.
Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork.
Maintain a positive and respectful attitude in stressful or controversial situations with patrons and coworkers.
Meet Aquatics department standards for dress, appearance, uniform, and personal hygiene.
Learn, understand, and follow TPRD and Trails Recreation Center core values and mission statement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
