About The Position

ACLD is seeking Day Habilitation Specialists to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day habilitation setting. The role helps participants become more self-sufficient and self-actualized, supporting their independence, personal goals, and accomplishments. The position offers entry-level training for a career in healthcare or education.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for 40 hours per week. Specialists use Agency vehicles to transport participants to and from volunteer and pre-vocational activities.

Requirements

• Clean, valid New York State driver's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Complete required AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel) and SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) trainings within six months of hire and maintain them.
• Ability to assist with lifting and transferring an adult person.
• Ability to communicate and understand English, verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred; training will be provided.
• Prior experience as a Caregiver, Care Assistant, Personal Assistant, Resident Assistant, Direct Care Worker, Nursing Assistant, Home Care Aide, or Companion is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Help program participants achieve or exceed their personal goals.
• Provide structure and emotional support.
• Assist in resolving behavioral issues.
• Help people supported with personal hygiene.
• Complete detailed, accurate documentation.
• Transport people supported to and from volunteer and pre-vocational activities using Agency vehicles.
• Assist with lifting and transferring an adult person.
