About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Day Camp Coordinator for a 3-week day camp at the Chula Vista Corps. This temporary position involves organizing and planning the camp curriculum, implementing the program, supervising assistants and volunteers, and ensuring a safe environment for youth, parents, and volunteers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with and empowering youth in a fun, Christian environment that reflects the values of Jesus Christ and the Salvation Army.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in a Day Camp environment.
  • Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Must work well and relate well with people.
  • Must attend staff, child safety, and other training as directed.
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
  • Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
  • Ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly.
  • Ability to provide constant and continual supervision.
  • Ability to engage and maintain a child's interest in activities.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Create a Day Camp schedule from Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, including registration, chapel, lessons, crafts, creative arts, excursions, outdoor activities, and lunch.
  • Organize final events and meals for participants and families, such as a mini-concert, rewards rally, and school supply distribution.
  • Lead staff and volunteers with enthusiasm.
  • Assign and delegate tasks to employees and volunteers for group activities, program needs, and inventory of supplies.
  • Oversee cleaning at the end of each day and preparation for the next day.
  • Ensure accurate headcount of registered participants at all times.
  • Immediately inform Corps Officers and parents/guardians of participant injuries, disputes, and behavioral problems.
  • Coordinate participant, parent, staff, or volunteer issues with Corps Officers in a timely manner and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Assist in emergencies and treatment of injured participants, volunteers, and/or staff, completing appropriate paperwork.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and facility boundaries, reporting any defects, problems, or suspicious behavior to Corps Officers.
  • Maintain an appropriate dress code, including a branded shirt and name tag.
  • Provide information and answer questions regarding upcoming programs at Oceanside Corps.
  • Develop, monitor, and ensure implementation of participant behavior contracts.
  • Maintain and distribute participants' personal medications, keeping a medication logbook.
  • Perform all other duties as directed.
