About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is a data and technology innovation hub and a Benefit Corporation working at the center of the federal government's mission. They are looking for highly motivated contributors who thrive when trusted to own a hard problem and equipped to deliver the solution. In this role, you will own the queries, stored procedures, views, and logical data models for your assigned part of a federal agency's enterprise data platform. You will build and maintain these components in Amazon Aurora and the platform stores alongside it, taking responsibility for their accuracy and performance. You will make database-design decisions within the established platform architecture and carry your work through implementation and ongoing maintenance. The work is real and hard, and it matters. This first assignment is a starting point, not the shape of your career here. Peregrine Advisors hires people, not seats, and moves their best to where the hardest problems are.

Requirements

  • Sole United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
  • Solid SQL on a modern relational platform, Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), with stored procedures and views.
  • Practical skill in query tuning, data loading, and connectivity, with version control and clean delivery.
  • Practical experience developing logical data models and database schemas, and making physical-design decisions for assigned components within the established platform architecture.
  • The ability to own assigned database work from design through maintenance, with sound judgment where accuracy and auditability are not optional.
  • At least four years of database development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • SQL on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), working with DynamoDB, S3, and Apache Iceberg tables.
  • Experience with stored procedures, views, and query tuning.
  • Experience with data loading from S3 into the platform stores, plus Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC).
  • Experience with logical data modeling and database-design decisions for assigned components within an established platform architecture.
  • Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Physical-design ownership of Aurora and Iceberg stores, or the drive to grow into it.
  • Access governed by Apache Ranger.
  • Federal information technology or high-volume transaction experience.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted developer tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain reliable Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, stored procedures, and views in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) that work with DynamoDB, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Apache Iceberg tables.
  • Turn raw data into something people can use.
  • Develop logical data models and database schemas for assigned components, designed to keep the relational and platform stores working together within the established platform architecture.
  • Tune queries, manage S3 data loads into the platform stores, and ensure connectivity, all under governed access.
  • Contribute to the firm itself over time, through new capabilities, tools, and lines of business launched.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision with the employee premium fully paid and half of dependent premiums.
  • Employer-paid life, accidental death, and short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • A 401(k) matched 100% up to 4% of salary, vesting immediately.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Sponsored professional certifications and continuing education.
